BAHMAN JALALI

Bahman Jalali (Iran, 1944) is the oldest and the master of the younger generation of emerging Iranian photographers. He was born in 1944 and is the author of several photography books as well as theoretical works in his field. He is one of the first to have launched photography as an art in Iran and to have made it acceptable as such to the general public. He has been teaching in different universities in his country for 20 years. He is curator of Iran’s first museum of photography and a member of the editorial board of Aksnameh, a bi-monthly journal of photography. He took part in the Iranian revolution and as a photographer witnessed the Iran / Iraq war and the postwar. His recent works are small format photomontages done from photographic archives of his country.
