Stasi - Secret Rooms

In January 2004, Daniel and Geo Fuchs were invited to Berlin by the Starke Foundation as artists-in-residence to work on new projects. It was in the German capital that the two artists, after their successful series Conserving and Famous Eyes, first set eyes on the architectural legacy left by the former GDR’s Ministry for State Security (Stasi): the office buildings, the remand prisons, the archives, and the bunkers.
After the fall of the Wall in 1989 and German reunification in 1990, the Stasi was dissolved along with other institutions pertaining to the Communist regime. Now, more than 15 years later, some of these sites have remained practically as they were, giving the impression that time has stood still for them.
